Get a Confidence Boosting Smile
More than 100 million adults in America suffer from broken or missing teeth. More than half of those people are embarrassed by their smiles or say that their confidence is significantly impacted due to the state of their teeth. If you happen to be one of those people, you have nothing to be embarrassed about any longer! Dental implants are the perfect confidence booster that can last a lifetime. At Jarrell Family Dentistry, we can help you put on a smile you love to show off.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are artificial roots and teeth (usually made from titanium) that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by a dentist or Periodontist – a specialist of the gums and supporting bone. The teeth attached to implants are very natural looking and often enhance or restore a patient’s smile! Over time, the bone grows around the implant and it becomes a permanent structure in your teeth. Dental implants last your entire life as long they’re properly cared for. However they don’t require special treatment — just brush, floss, and visit the dentist as usual.
Why Should I Consider Dental Implants?
Although they may seem intimidating, implants are the best natural solution to fill in missing teeth. Because the bone grows around them, it’s very difficult to even tell they are there. Dental implants can also help you with the following:
- Allow you to chew, eat, talk and smile with ease
- Prevent the need for partial dentures
- Reduce bone loss and gum recession
- Secure a dental bridge
- Support dentures for a sturdier fit
- Prevent face caving
- Offer a lifelong solution
What Is the Process of Getting Dental Implants?
The process of getting implants requires a number of visits over several months. X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant. While the area is numb, the implant will be surgically placed into the bone and allowed to heal and integrate itself for up to six months. Depending on the type of implant, a second surgery may be required in order to place the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place. With other implants, the post and anchor are already attached and placed at the same time.
After several weeks of healing the artificial teeth are made and fitted to the post portion of the anchor. Because several fittings may be required, this step may take one to two months to complete. After a healing period, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient.
Post-Care Instructions
You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene and eating habits, alongside regular dental visits, will aid in the life of your new implant.
